Anastasija Sevastova has met Patricia Maria Tig in Bucharest previously. The Latvian won, 6-2, 6-2, in their previous clash - the only time the pair have ever faced off.

Unranked Tig previously climbed as high as WTA World No.83. She is currently on the comeback after long-standing back trouble and entered this tournament as a wildcard in qualifying.

Aliona Bolsova is at a career-high ranking of WTA World No.88 partly thanks to a run to the fourth round of the French Open in June. She lost at Roland Garros to Amanda Anisimova.

Barbora Krejcikova has had recent success on clay, winning an ITF tournament in Stare Splavy, Czech Republic in June - her last appearance in singles.

Martina Di Giuseppe has seven ITF singles titles to her name; every one of those has come on clay.

Veronika Kudermetova has already faced the Italian this year. In Istanbul qualifying she ran out a 6-4, 6-1 winner. It is their only meeting.

WTA World No.210 Jaqueline Cristian scored a big upset in the previous round as she defeated compatriot an No.5 seed Sorana Cirstea, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
