BEIJING, China - Li Na, who recently announced her retirement from professional tennis, was given a sentimental goodbye at the China Open on Tuesday night - but there was some good news too.

Earlier in the day, Li was named an Official Ambassador for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. She will be on hand for a number of events in Singapore, including the Fan Festival, the WTA Future Stars event and the Opening Ceremony (read more about the news here).

At night, on the China Open's state-of-the-art Diamond Court, Li was honored on court for her illustrious career, with a few special guests coming out on the court too - her husband, Jiang Shan, ATP World Tour star Rafael Nadal, and her good friend Petra Kvitova, who made a heartfelt speech. Li said a few words to her adoring fans, who in turn chanted "Li Na, We Love You" at the end of it all.

There was more - Li thanked her fans with her own video of them, showing highlights of her moments with them. A perfect ending for the always-classy two-time Grand Slam champion and former No.2.

Serena Williams was asked if she would have attended if she weren't playing the match after.

"Obviously - for sure," the World No.1, who won that match, said. "She's an amazing player. She's done so much for over a billion people. I don't think I have impacted that many people.

"What she's done for our sport, the sport I play in, is really second to none."
