Virginia Wade was the inaugural World No.2 in the first official computer rankings on November 3, 1975. Wade won a whopping 55 WTA singles titles, including on home soil at 1977 Wimbledon under the watchful eye of Queen Elizabeth II (pictured).

Billie Jean King's highest ranking after the introduction of the computer rankings in 1975 was World No.2, which she reached on December 11, 1977. Trailblazing King had already garnered all 12 of her Grand Slam singles titles by that date.

Andrea Jaeger reached World No.2 for the first time on August 17, 1981. The American started her career as a record-breaking teenage phenom and went on to win 10 WTA singles titles and make two Grand Slam finals.

Conchita Martínez ascended to World No.2 for the first time on October 30, 1995. The Spanish star won 33 WTA singles titles overall and carved her way to a Wimbledon title in 1994.

The late Jana Novotna hit World No.2 for the first time on July 7, 1997. The Czech earned 24 WTA singles titles and is well-remembered for her serve-and-volley prowess and her emotional victory at 1998 Wimbledon.

Anastasia Myskina rose to World No.2 for the first time on September 13, 2004. Myskina won 10 WTA singles titles, including 2004 Roland Garros, where she became the first Russian woman to win a Grand Slam singles title.
