An accomplished junior player, Bacsinszky turned pro in 2003, made her Top 100 debut in 2007 (just after her 18th birthday), and cracked the Top 50 in 2008. She won her first WTA singles title at Luxembourg in 2009.

After a handful of seasons marred by injuries, which included left foot surgery, Bacsinszky took an extended break from tennis, but returned in 2013 with her biggest successes yet to come.

Bacsinszky won three more WTA singles titles between 2015 and 2016, bringing her total to four. She also won five WTA doubles titles throughout her career.

The Swiss star became a regular presence in the latter stages of Roland Garros, making the semifinals in 2015 and 2017, and the quarterfinals in 2016. She also reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2015.
