The 2015 Roland Garros runner-up had originally been set to retire following this year's Australian Open, but was forced to withdraw from the year's first major due to wrist tendinitis. Safarova has lifted the Prague trophy once previously - in 2016, as the seventh and most recent of her singles titles, when she defeated Samantha Stosur 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the final.

The 32-year-old also announced that Team Bucie - her much-loved and much-decorated doubles partnership with Bethanie Mattek-Sands - will reunite for one last hurrah in Prague. The Czech-American duo won 11 titles between 2015 and 2017, including five Grand Slam titles, and both were ranked doubles World No.1 in 2017.

However, this will be the first time they will have competed in front of Safarova's home crowd. "@matteksands can't wait to welcome u in Prague!" posted Safarova on social media.
