Top seeds Hsieh Su-Wei and Barbora Strycova kicked off the season with their sixth title together in Brisbane, saving a championship point in the final to defeat Ashleigh Barty and Kiki Bertens 3-6, 7-6(7), [10-8].

That same week, Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova lifted their fifth trophy as a team in Shenzhen with a 6-2, 3-6, [10-4] defeat of home players Duan Yingying and Zheng Saisai in the final.

In Auckland, Taylor Townsend won her maiden WTA title and Asia Muhammad collected her fifth without dropping a set, defeating the one-off high-wattage pairing of Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-4 in the final.
