Aryna astonishes: Sabalenka's winning streak in review

Some facts and figures behind Aryna Sabalenka's 15-match winning streak, which encompasses title runs in Ostrava, Linz, and Abu Dhabi.

Aryna Sabalenka came into the J&T Banka Ostrava Open in October 2020 with an 8-5 win-loss record since post-hiatus play began on the WTA, including a loss in her most recent match, to Ons Jabeur at Roland Garros.

However, Sabalenka went 4-0 on the week, including wins over US Open semifinalist Jennifer Brady and US Open finalist Victoria Azarenka in the final two rounds, to claim her second title of the year in Ostrava.

Sabalenka promptly won the final tournament of the WTA season as well, claiming the Upper Austria Ladies Linz crown and extending her match-winning streak to nine straight.

Sabalenka's victory over her doubles partner Elise Mertens in the Linz final gave the Belarusian her third singles title of 2020, tying Simona Halep for most WTA singles titles won in the season.

The 2021 season started with Sabalenka heading into the Abu Dhabi WTA Women’s Tennis Open ranked World No.10. 2020 was the first season Sabalenka finished with a year-end ranking inside the Top 10.

Sabalenka picked up where she left off, extending her match-winning streak to 15 by notching her third straight title and ninth career WTA singles title, dropping just a single set in Abu Dhabi.

Sabalenka's final victory in Abu Dhabi made her one of only 11 players to compile a 15-match winning streak on the WTA since 2010.

If Sabalenka can win her next match, she will become one of only five players to win 16 straight matches since 2010, joining Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Bianca Andreescu, and Simona Halep.

Sabalenka's ninth title moves her into a tie for sixth place among active players on the list of Most Titles Won Before Turning 23. If she can win a 10th title before her 23rd birthday on May 5, she will move into a tie for fifth with Petra Kvitova.

During her winning streak, Sabalenka converted 58.9 percent of her break points, nearly nine percentage points higher than in her career prior to the 15-match run.

With three straight titles and 15 consecutive match-wins behind her, Sabalenka is projected to rise to a new career-high ranking of World No.7 on the singles rankings of Monday, January 18.
