CHARLESTON, SC, USA - Madison Keys’ stellar week in Charleston included some major wins on the court - she beat Sloane Stephens and Caroline Wozniacki en route to the green clay title - but she scored one very big win off of it.

In recognition of the American’s anti-bullying efforts, the Volvo Car Open honored Keys with the “Player Who Makes a Difference” award.

Back in 2016, Keys became an ambassador for FearlesslyGIRL, an international organization that encourages girls and young women to be kinder to each other on and off line through school assemblies, on-campus clubs and more.

In addition to the Award, the Volvo Car Open also donated USD $10,000 to FearlesslyGIRL in Keys’ honor.

“I love this tournament,” Keys said during the award dinner. “It’s one of my favorites, every year it’s the first one I sign up for. It feels like home and coming here is always amazing.

“To have Bob [Moran] and Eleanor [Adams], and WTA Charities recognize what I’m doing, it’s really humbling.”

Tournament director Moran added, “What Madison does outside the court is very special, she makes a difference every day. It’s very important.”

The Volvo Car Open also recognized the work of WTA Charities with a USD $10,000 donation. WTA Board Members were on hand to accept it, including Tracy Austin, Dianne Hayes and Moran.
