MATCH POINTS

No.1 seed Carla Suárez Navarro lost her only previous match against compatriot Lara Arruabarrena, though that was on a grass court in Mallorca last year.

Katerina Siniakova, who is the No.7 seed this week, is chasing her third singles main draw win of the year in her ninth tournament.

Lucky loser Julia Glushko had to withdraw from her only previous meeting with No.2 seed Mihaela Buzarnescu, which was on the clay of Versmold in 2017.

Defending champion Pauline Parmentier and 2016 winner Cagla Buyukakcay will take to the court for the evening’s matches.

Parmentier has a 2-2 record against Evgeniya Rodina, including a 2018 qualifying win in New Haven. Curiously, there has been a 6-2 set in all four previous meetings between the pair.

Maria Sakkari has never lost a first-round match in her three previous visits to Istanbul. She was a semifinalist last year.

No.9 seed Viktoria Kuzmova is playing the main draw for the first time. In 2017, she lost her first qualifying match.
