TIANJIN, China - Double Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and reigning champion Peng Shuai have been added to the roster at October's Tianjin Open, joining the previously announced Maria Sharapova in China.
World No.14 Kvitova and 2016 winner Peng will also be joined at the Tianjin Tuanbo International Tennis Center by Caroline Garcia, Lesia Tsurenko, former winner Alison Riske and Sabine Lisicki for the fourth edition of the event, which takes place between October 9 and 15.
"I have never been to Tianjin and can’t wait to visit and play in front of all my fans and to explore the city," Kvitova said. "I have had great success in Wuhan and Zhuhai so it would be great to also win my first Tianjin Open."
"This will be my fourth Open," Peng added. "The tournament will always hold a special place in my heart as this is where I won my first WTA title. I have many unforgettable memories and hope I can play well again for all the fans from my hometown and try to defend my title."
Sharapova, who this week made her Grand Slam return, was awarded a wildcard for the event earlier in August. “We travel around the world and always play the same events, we know our grounds, where we are going, what we are doing," the Russian, who is also down to appear at the China Open in Beijing from September 24, said. "So the exciting part is getting to a new city, a new place, a new fan base. I am excited about the chance to play there."
