Serena Williams' comeback draws nearer as the former WTA World No.1 and new mother has opted into the upcoming US Fed Cup tie against the Netherlands in February.

Williams has been out of official action since winning the Australian Open in 2017, but closed out the year with an exhibition against reigning Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko in Abu Dhabi. The match took place just three months after marrying Alexis Ohanian and giving birth to daughter Alexis Olympia Jr.

Joining Serena in Asheville, North Carolina is sister Venus, who is coming off a glittering 2017 season that saw her return to the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. Venus last played Fed Cup in 2016, while Serena last played in 2015, winning two singles rubbers against Italy.

Vandeweghe has been a Fed Cup stalwart in recent years, leading team USA to the title last year in an nailbiter against Belarus.

The Netherlands were surprise semifinalists in 2016, and will be looking to score another upset against the defending champions in Asheville when the tie begins on February 10th.
