2019 - ROLAND GARROS - FRANCE

June 7, 2019

Story of the semis: Barty, Vondrousova set up Roland Garros 2019 final

Wind, rain and momentum shifts - the Roland Garros 2019 semifinalists battled it all as Marketa Vondrousova overcame Johanna Konta and Ashleigh Barty outlasted Amanda Anisimova.

Meanwhile on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, Ashleigh Barty also began briskly, winning 20 of the first 23 points en route to a 5-0 lead over Amanda Anisimova in the blink of an eye (Getty)

Vondrousova settled enough to level the score at 2-2, but Konta pulled ahead once again to hold three set points at 5-3 (Getty)

Anisimova essayed a remarkable turnaround in the first set, saving two set points at 0-5 - and chipping steadily away at Barty's lead (Getty)

Vondrousova saved all three set points at 3-5 - and reeled off the next four games with excellent finesse to steal the first set from Konta (Getty)

Having lost 20 of the first 23 points, Anisimova surged back to take the first set on a tiebreak - and, rattling off 17 straight points of her own, took a 3-0 second-set lead (Getty)

Down a set and 0-3, it was Barty's turn to flip the match, gathering herself to reel off seven games in a row and winning the last nine points of the second set over Anisimova (Getty)

As in the first set, Konta took the lead first in the second set, and again made her way to a 5-3 lead over Vondrousova (Getty)

But once again, Konta was unable to serve out the set, and Vondrousova elevated her game at the business end of the set to take it on a tiebreak (Getty)

Anisimova showed her frustration as the second and third sets started to get away from her as Barty took back control (Getty)

Barty had to recover from an early break in the deciding set and missed her first five match points, but eventually sealed victory on her sixth (Getty)

19-year-old Vondrousova becomes the youngest player in the Roland Garros final since Ana Ivanovic in 2007, and the first Czech since Lucie Safarova in 2015 (Getty)

In her maiden Grand Slam final, Barty will aim to become the first Australian woman since Margaret Court in 1973 to win Roland Garros (Getty)
