Patty Schnyder hopes to extend her surprise run by making the last eight on Thursday. She has two semifinal appearances this year - winning in both Essen and Perigueux.

Victory for Johanna Larsson on Thursday would see her match last year's quarterfinal placing, when she lost to Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets.

Caroline Garcia won her only previous meeting with Tereza Martincova, triumphing in Hong Kong last year in straight sets.

Patty Schnyder holds a 100 per cent record over Antonia Lottner, beating the German in their only previous meeting, in Stuttgart-Vaihingen last year.

Thursday's other two second-round pairings are meeting for the first time.
