"A finalist at Wuhan two years ago, Ash Barty is one of my favorite players on tour. She plays with such an ease and has many weapons, and her net game is especially brilliant. She's had a tremendous season, winning her first Grand Slam and reaching World No.1 – and although her form has dipped lately, I’m sure she'll be keen for a strong Asian swing to end her year in style."
Simona Halep
"Obviously when Simona is at her best she is very, very hard to beat – we saw that in the Wimbledon final when she dominated Serena Williams. She's such a great competitor and complete player, and after her early exit at the US Open I think she will be ready for China and tough to beat."
Sofia Kenin
"Sonya strikes the ball really well, has a good demeanor and plays with a lot of confidence. She's won two titles this year and on top of that was the only player to take a set off Barty in Paris. She's just been very consistent, is coming off a great week in Guangzhou [where she won the title], and I think she’s ready to win bigger titles."

"Belinda is coming off a great run at the US Open, where she reached her first Grand Slam semifinal before falling to Bianca Andreescu. Earlier in the year she won the title at Dubai, including wins over Halep, Aryna Sabalenka, Elina Svitolina and Petra Kvitova – which reminded everybody that she's capable of beating the best."
Outside pick: Dayana Yastremska
"I saw Yastremska play in the Wimbledon juniors a couple of years ago and she really impressed me, even then. She's won three titles in the past 12 months while still a teenager, and just keeps getting better and better. There's just so much talent coming out of Ukraine and Dayana is certainly capable of doing big things."
