After a runner-up showing at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open, Australia's Ashleigh Barty is on course to shine in Zhuhai for the first time in her career.

The World No.23 moved up into qualifying position on the Shine in Zhuhai leaderboard on Monday, after reaching her third final of the season and finishing runner-up to Caroline Garcia.

A three-time WTA finalist this season, Barty won the first singles title of her career in Kuala Lumpur before finishing as runner-up in Birmingham and Wuhan.

The 21-year-old is already qualified for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global in doubles alongside compatriot Casey Dellacqua, but is looking to make her first year-end appearance in singles.

While still in contention to qualify on the Porsche Race to Singapore, Garcia now occupies the second position on the Zhuhai leaderboard behind compatriot Kristina Mladenovic.
