SINGAPORE - With Wednesday's results at the Kremlin Cup, Angelique Kerber has snapped up the sixth of eight spots in the $7-million BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.
It will be Kerber's third time qualifying as part of the elite eight at the WTA's crown jewel event, having already qualified in 2012 and 2013. She was also an alternate at the WTA Finals in 2014.
"I'm very happy to have qualified for the WTA Finals again," Kerber said. "After being an alternate last year, I am excited to get back on the court and compete against the top players in the world again.
"I had a great season and really pushed myself to qualify - especially as the event came closer."
Kerber's season has been highlighted by four Premier-level titles, all coming on different surfaces - the Family Circle Cup in Charleston (green clay), Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart (red clay), Aegon Classic Birmingham in Birmingham (grass) and Bank Of The West Classic in Stanford (hard).
