KARLSRUHE, Germany - Tereza Martincova shocked fifth seed Daria Gavrilova with a 6-4, 7-6(3) straight sets win at the Luqui Moly Open Karlsruhe.

The Australian was 5-1 up in the second set, looking on course to force a decider, but the Czech battled back to wrap it up in two - and pin down an encounter with Jasmine Paolini of Italy tomorrow.

Top seed Tamara Zidansek retired during the second set against Ekaterine Gorgodze, with the Georgian 7-5, 3-4 up.
